Question?
Why is it that music has the power to change your mood in the fraction of a second?
We need look no further than the studies of violent music to understand its impact on the human mind. Not too long ago you may recall some very concerned parents and congressmen in the news debating over the violent content in music and its repercussions.
There is good reason for this as violent angry music has now been proven to increase aggressive thoughts and feelings, leading to aggressive and violent behavior.According to a study a few years ago from the American Psychological Association (APA) in Washington, Songs with violent lyrics increase aggression related thoughts and emotions and this effect is directly related to the violence in the lyrics.”
The findings, appearing in the May issue of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, contradicts popular notions of positive catharsis or venting effects of listening to angry, violent music on violent thoughts
and feelings. The violent songs increased feelings of hostility without provocation or threat, according to the authors, and this effect was not the result of differences in musical style, specific performing artist or arousal properties of the songs. Even the humorous violent songs increased aggressive
thoughts. The increases in aggressive thoughts and feelings due to violent songs have implications for real world violence, according to lead researcher Craig A. Anderson, Ph.D. of Iowa State University. “Aggressive
thoughts can influence perceptions of ongoing social interactions, coloring them with an aggressive
tint.
Such aggression-biased interpretations can, in turn, instigate a more aggressive response -verbal or physical -than would have been emitted in a nonbiased state, thus provoking an aggressive escalatory spiral of antisocial
exchanges,” said Dr. Anderson.
Clearly if violent music leads to violence then wouldn’t empowering music lead to the creation of value.
Ultimately, by listening to any kind of music what you are feeling is the life-condition of the creator of the piece of art. Take a good piece of art for instance. If you hear a song that makes you instantly
feel amazing even if you’re in the worst of moods, and this motivates you to speak to someone you’ve beenavoiding or motivates you to make a phone call and get things done then wouldn’t you want to get your
hands on more of this type of music, perhaps even meet the artist?
The big difference with music and other types of media is that its impact affects the auditory component of your brain with vibration of sound which has been proven to have a significant effect on short and long term
memory to quickly embed thoughts which lead to emotions that last longer.Ever get a chorus stuck in your head for like 8 hours?
Since music triggers emotions and emotions dictate our actions why not use music as an incredibly powerful tool to move and motivate ourselves into action. There are very few people working on this front to bring you this
